I have a network storage and another job that backs up to the local hdd of the BE 2012 server. On both of these storage locations there is no option to chose Overwrite or Append. If I change the job to a Tape storage, then the options are available.
1. What type of backup is occuring then?
2. Is it possible to make the options available?

This may be simple for a seasoned professional, basically we have a Mac OS X server running 10.8.5 with a Backup Exec Agent installed (was comissioned by an engineer with agent VRTSRalus 13.05204). The problem I am experiencing is now when I try to upgrade the agent I receive the following error:
'This patch only applies to RALUS/RAWS shipped with Backup Exec 2012 ...exiting'
I'm following Symantec article TECH179999 when I receive these errors and can only assume I need to remove the previous Agent as the current agent I'm trying to upgrade to is 'ralus1798'.
I may be totally wrong as I have had little to do with Mac OS X and backup Exec Agents.
Any help on this matter would be grately appreciated.

I try to evaluate BackUp Exexwith VMWare ESXi but it seems the media are corrupted on Symantec website.
After download with IE11 I obtain a .zip but impossible to extract anything. I try to rename in .iso and .exe without better results.
Any idea ?
I just installed BE 2010 SP4 on a 2008R2 server and the backup of the Exchange 2003 server completes. When I drilled down to modify the mailbox selections of what to back up and found the following:
When looking at the job history the byte count is much higher
Not sure what is wrong?
We use tape backup in the school using the grandfather, father and son system; the daily backup is Incremental then we do a full backup at the weekend and it works OK apart from a small niggle. The Incremental tapes are all from the 'Daily Backup' tape set and everything is fine until the Thursday night jobs. Every previous night (Mon, Tue and Wed) a new tape is used but for some reason on Thursday it always ignores the 'Overwriteable' tape and uses one of the previously used ones from the set (If I don't remove the tapes daily!). It's not a major problem I suppose just a quirk I can't see why it does this each week unless I take the tapes out daily. Weird!!

On our SBS 2011 (with lastest updates) we are
running Backup Exec 2012 sp4.
Backups are stored to 3 external USB drives.
Last Week we want to do a test-restore of the
BE server.
So we created the SDR with the wizard and booted
from the DVD. After boot BE asked to give path to
the .dr file.
Our major problem is that no .dr file is created
within the sdr/Data folder.
The backup task in tell that all components are
available for sdr( green light).

Recently started getting backup failures per above on one of my three mailbox databases.
At around the same time started moving some mailboxes off the 570GB DB to the second one to slim down the size. Some moves ended with warnings but the mailboxes moved. Other mailboxes moved without warning.
Also have been messing with circular logging to keep the log files down since the backups are not clearing them out.
Have rebooted both the Ex 2010 mailbox servers and the backup server. I see SP4 is applicable so installing that now.
Every 3 min am getting event 2137 log truncation failed for that database on the 2nd DAG member.

I'm a new to Symantec BackupExec user and I wounder if some one could help me to fix the problem.
I've followed the complete instructions provided by symantec online documentation. The agent was installed correctly on the Linux server( CentOS) and has been added to the media server( Windows 2008 R2). The browser fails as soon as the firewall is turned on the Linux server, I've configured the IPTables between Linux and Media servers to allow all ports but I'm not sure what is causing the problem.

after installing SP4 for BE2012 the server runs poorly. The jobs cannot access the devices properly. Restarting the services work for a short time. I think we have to open a call. We have the caso options installed... Anyone the same problems?

I want use a server HP for my backup, it is a good idea use this server for disk target (with FreeNas installed and backup exec server installed on virtual machine) or i need install windows 2008 and install on the server backupexec and use local disk space for disk target?
I need backup virtual machine (backup exec vray edition) and phisical machine.

I have a question about the mail notification I receive for 1 of my backups:
(Server: "BACKUPEXEC") (Job: "XXX") The job completed successfully. However, the following conditions were encountered:
Could not completely protect remote computers because the Backup Exec Remote Agent was not installed.
Does it means that the backup does not work completely if I need to do a restore?
This backup is only a backup of a shared folder on a Windows 2012 server, it is obligatory to install the remote agent on this server?
Because actually we can't install remote agent on a 2012 I think.

Having a tough time figuring this one out. Two days ago we had 3 hard drives fail on our SAN, a dell tech came out to switch the drives for us and unplugged the wrong one which basically wiped out the SAN because it had no good drives to mirror too. I am doing restores from tape but i do not see some of the servers in the selection list for restore options that i used to have. Wondering if i am just using the wrong view option or do i need tapes from previous months?
For instance i am missing an FTP Server and 1SQL server as restore To options. I know they were being backed up to tape but i can not get those to show up in the selection list as restore options.
i do notice that 3-4 tapes in our autoloader show bad label.
Our monthly tapes go offsite, and we have daily and weekly schedules that get over written as needed.
Any guidance on what i might be overlooking would be of great help since the disaster we just had wiped out 12 vm's :)

Einen Laufenden BackupJob für einen automatischen angeforderten Cleaning-Auftrag zu unterbrechen, nach Cleaning weiter fortsetzen zu lassen?
Hintergrund: Ich hatte nun schon mehrmals den Effekt, dass die Cleaning-Anforderung im 1/3 eines Jobs erschienen ist. Dann lief die Sicherung noch eine Weile weiter um einige Minuten mit Schreibfehler abzubrechen. Wenn es nun möglich wäre den Datenstrom zum Drive für die Reinigung zu unterbrechen, wäre ich über ein Info dankbar.

My CASO caterror.log file grows rapidly and has thousands of (error 2)
Our Media servers are replicated with CASO and all seems to function fine. (Well, as fine as most 2012 infrras)
I would like to understand what the error 2 means. here is a copy of an exact error.

I'm implementing backup to tape with Backup Exec SP4. I use a LTO4 standadlone tape drive. When a runing backup job runs out of storage, I manually introduce a new tape but the new tape is rejected from the tape drive. Is there any preconfiguration tasks to the medias before it can be used by Backup Exec? How can I let backup exec spans its backups on two tapes?

I'm testing the BE 2014 and since last week my BE is always stopping some Enterprise services, like Enterprise Vault Directory,Vault Admin... and so on.
The reason for this is that like this for me to continue the beta i have to be always connected to server console and not by using the be console at my laptop to do the manage needed.
