Backup exec. restore issues

I need a solution

The client I was working with yesterday has the latest greatest backup exec. (2012) and the latest greatest symantec endpoint progection 12.1.4013.

I needed to do a restore of a inetpub folder yesterday.

It would not start would give a communication error pretty quickly.

So I disabled the anti-virus on the target system.

The backup would then start and get going for about 5 min. and come to a stop.

The anti-virus still said disabled but I didn't think that was the case.

Cancelled the job then did a re-enalbe and disable of the anti-virus again and again it would start but get so far and stop.

We then ran clean wipe and uninstalled the anti-virus on the target box and removed AV.

The restore then ran no problem.

So do I need a exception of some kind setup?

Seems weird that I can't do a restore with AV still on ?

Thanks

Mike

I ran the following SQL query:

bcp "SET NOCOUNT ON select * from bedb.dbo.Version" queryout %outFile% -c -t"|" -r"\n" -T -S %COMPUTERNAME%%tcpPort%

and got the following output:

ADAMM 13.5|13.5|2011-03-08 00:00:00.000|
BESERVER|13.0|2009-06-23 00:00:00.000|13.0.5001.0
SERVER_EXE|13.0|2009-06-23 00:00:00.000|13.0.5001.0

To which BackupExec version do these numbers refer? 2010? 2010R2? 2010R3?

Backing up Exchange Databases from a DAG

I need a solution

Hi,

We currently have a DAG with two CAS servers (EX1 and EX2), two database servers (EX3 and EX4) and one off-site server (EX5) that has all roles installed in case of a DR scenario. There are two Mailbox Databases, both currently mounted on EX4, with EX3 getting preference if that fails over. Backup Exec sometimes throws theese errors when backing up the mailbox databases:

Set type : Backup
Set status : Completed
Set description :
Resource name : \\DAGname.domain.net\Microsoft Information Store\Mailbox Database 2
Logon account : System Logon Account
Encryption used : None
Error : e0000f04 - The media server could not connect to the remote computer. The remote computer may not be running the Backup Exec
Remote Agent for Windows/Linux. Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.
Agent used : Yes
Advanced Open File Option used : No

I noticed that although we don't back up anything on EX5 as this is taken care of by our hosting centre, it *is* still a DAG member and as such not having the Remote Agent installed, causes Backup Exec problems communicating with the DAG. I have installed the Remote Agent on EX5 and now Backup Exec seems to be communicating with the DAG again.

My one Question is: where will Backup Exec pull Database backups from? If it pulls them from whatever DAG member has them mounted at the time, we won't have a problem. However, if there is a chance it could pull backups of the databases from EX5 this is a serious issue as it would max out bandwidth, compromise our replication and, needless to say, cause the backup job to fail.

I need a solution

Hi,

I have a BE2012 v.14.0 Rev.1798 (64-bit) on windows 2008 server datacenter and 3 disk storage in iSCSI.

I run the jobs backup with 'any disk storage' in option for all backup jobs.

I have the first storage full and the second and third storage not used.

I have the ability to better distribute the load on the storage?

thanks

I need a solution

I am new to Backup Exec. Need some help here.

Daily tape (Mon-Thurs)

8 tapes

Retention period = 2 weeks

Current settings OPP = 12 days, AP = Infinite allow append

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I configure the OPP and AP? I don't need to append data to the tape, as we have sufficient tape for daily backup.

Current settings doesn't seems to remove expired data (after 12 days OPP) automatically, which I wish it can.

Please help. Thanks.

Can't install agent after SP4

I need a solution

Hi there,

I installed sp4 on my media server and startet updating the agents. 2/3 worked, but 1/3 didn't (some Win2008, some Win2003)... The first server I tried to troubleshoot also fails to update manually - the wizard simply does nothing. I uninstalled the old agent and tried again to install the agent out of the raws64-folder, but it keeps hanging in the progress tab with estimated install time - 3 min. Rebooting the server and renaming the old folder didn't work either.

This particular server is an Windows2008 R2 with SP1. The eventlog doesn't give me any hints.

How can I get the agent-service back to life again?

Cheer

Marcel

Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command.

I need a solution

I have a backup that won't complete because it is stating that I need to"insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command."

Yet, I am backing up to tape and have a different job, which is successful, that backs up to tape. There is no issue with the tape backups, just the backup to disk...

I checked the forums and saw that maybe this had to do with the OPP, yet the OPP is set to 0 hours and infinite append. This should allow for anytime to overwrite and shouldn't be an issue. There are 20 GB free and the job got to 93%... plenty space is available.

I am seeing that the media set is set to "Scratch Media" yet, the job itself has the previous media set of "Keep Data 1 Day- Allow Overwrite", which is the media set described above.

I suppose the question I have then, is why is it using scratch media, when the job is set to use the media set I described above?

Strange Backup behaviour

Backup of a w2102-host with 2 hyper-guest (also on 2012) present a success or a failure. since this happens we don't change something on the 3 machines and 1 day it works, one day it fails. Latest error V-79-57344-34108, the day before on guest-a, yesterday on guest-b. Other error-codes are: V-79-40960-38467, V-79-57344-33967, V-57344-65033, V-79-57344-38726. Both guests are production-server and in daily use. After a reboot of the host, the backup may work or not.

BE2012 , SP3, HF213186

OS on all 3 machines are actually patched

What i found was fingerprintdiskmap.txt in c:\program files\symantec\BackuExec\RAWS\DATA\Hyper-V\Temp\5724f93a-..-..-...-..\9999....-..-..-..-\ with the following content:

fallbacktofull=false

M:\Hyper-V_Machines\xxxx\xxxx_c.vhd fingerprint0000.db

M:\Hyper-V_Machines\xxxx\xxxx_d.vhd fingerprint0001.db

fingerprint0000.db is 41024kb

fingerprint0001.db is missing

The guest with the error, does not appear on the hyper-v-manager, if you connect remotely to the host. on the hyper-v-manager on the host, the failing guest is still backing-up in his state, but the guest is online and the app is working fine and can be remotely connected.

Backup strategy for discussion

$

I need a solution

Hiya,

this is my first post on the forum so welcome all.

I need to ask for an advice about my backup strategy.

I have :

First physical box running Win208r2 server as domain controller (call it DC) with 3 virtual machines on it. First one is called FILES and it's a simple file sharing server. Second one is called MAIL and it has Exchange 2010 all in one with email database sitting on C drive, Third one is called SERVICE and it holds SQL database and some applications for business - this server also uses Truecrypt database encryption mechanism installed by the 3rd party.

All above systems have agents installed and all are being backed up onto media server.

Second physical box is media server with BE2012 and an array of 3TB hard drives - this is where all the backups are stored. Also I have an Ultrium2 tape drive plugged it to this box but I'm not yet using it.

My backup strategy which I need to review is as follows :

DC - weekly full backup of DC operating system, and 'external' backup of FILES and MAIL. I've excluded SERVICE server from this as BE can't handle TrueCrypt sitting on he sever. Data kept for 2 weeks

DC - daily incremental backups of DC, FILES & MAIL.Data kept for 1 week.

FILES - weekly fill backup of operating system and all shared files. Data kept for 2 weeks.

FILES - dailt incremental backup of operating system and all shared files. Data kept for 1 week.

MAIL - daily full backup of operating system and mail database. Data kept for 2 weeks.

SERVICE - daily fill backup of operating system. Becasue the database is set up using TrueCrypt - I can't back it up though BE as it kept on crashing. I'm manually copying database files to remote location on a daily basis.

Problems I have :

- daily amount of data basked up is ~200GB

- running low on space - even 3TB array is not good enough for such a setup.

- I only have 2 weeks of backups

- I want to set up backup duplication to tape but I'm not sure how to set up tape rotation.

- all backups sitting on 1 location

Please is somebody can have a look and recommend different approach to this I would really appreciate it.

Dear All,

I have backup of MS Exchange 2010 (installed on Windows server 2008 R2) with Backup exec 2012 without any problems. There are two servers with CAS role (NLB) and two servers with DAG role (Failover).

I try to make GRT-restore some mailbox items and job ended with error -

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0000f04 - The Backup Exec server could not connect to the remote computer.  Ensure that a Backup Exec agent is installed and running on the remote computer.  If a Backup Exec agent is installed, ensure that it is the correct version.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-3844

I try solutions by this link:

  1. Redirect restore to CAS server (cluster adress and single server)
  2. Add adresses of CAS and DAG servers into  hosts file on the media server.

The problem persists.

Kindly advice

Hi,

I am think of purchsing the symantec backup exec 2012 to install on Windows Server 2012 and allowing the software to perform the backup jobs.

Just wondering is it true that symantec backup exec 2012 does not support Windows Server 2012?

I am think to replace my current backup software with symantec backup exec 2012.

As I will installing the symantec backup exec 2012 onto my AD server in my office.

Just wondering will the software work on the AD server as i only have 1 server in my office. Currently I do not have any SQL server running on my AD server.

And I also wonder the following statement do it apply to me

"You cannot install SQL Express or SQL Server 2005 on a Windows Server 2008 computer that is configured in a Read Only Domain Controller (RODC) role."
