I am trying to tune deduplication performance. When I try to see what the dedup process queue is doing, I get the following error.

Deduplication is still running, but not with great performance. I am not able to find anything on this particular error though. Anyone have suggestions?
Hi there,
My mediaserver is running BE 2012 SP4 and we use a sharepoint farm with sharepoint 2007 on windows server 2003 and SQL 2012 on windows server 2012. Last week I had an issue with the farm backup (it stopped working) and so I recreated the job and had so bind the service account to the backup exec services again. Now the job works again, but I got a different problem now.
I backup both servers separately and also use a farm backup job (full and incremental). But I got an issue on the database-server, where the sharepoint-databases are stored. I want the databases to run in full recovery mode and because I configured incremental jobs, the T-Logs should be deleted regulary. But they don't, they grow larger and larger.
1. question - should I just run the farm backup and disable backing up sharepoint ressources on the webserver and backing up the sql-server instance for sharepoint?
2. Why does neither the incremental farm backup nor the sql-server backup truncate my t-logs?
3. I added the farm by using add - microsoft sharepoint - serverfarm and using the wizard. But BE keeps adding two other farms with no jobs configured. How can I prevent that?
Thanks
Marcel
We are adding a new NAS to our environment, and I have a question regarding space required for backups. Currently, I have about 10TB on a SAN connected via fiber to 3 ESXi hosts and our Server 2008 backup exec server. I have roughly 9TB of space on the BE server, which is sufficient for weekly full and daily diffs of the VMs on the SAN.
The new NAS I am putting in (or additional tray of disks to the SAN) will be 40TB of data. This is the most I have ever backed up, and I am honestly not sure how much space I need to add to the BE server. The general plan is the 15TB will be read-only archive, the rest active data changing daily. Once a file has not been modified for 3 months, it will be moved to the archive.
SO, theoretically I will be backing the archive up straight to tape only when data is added to it. The other 25TB will require a weekly full and daily diff/inc. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I should quote storage for this? I am initially thinking a DAS with 10-12 disks 4TB each.
Hello.
I have a disaster in my system, and I need to recover a backup.
Because of the disaster I have lost symantec backup too, I have reinstalled it, and when I try to connect to my backup folder, it says:
An unknown backup-to-disk folder was found at the specified path
And ask me to create a new one.
Why am I seeing this message? The backup folder looks good.
If I create a new one.. Will I loose all the backups I have in that folder?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
Is it possible in Backup Exec 2012, to get a full backup job to run on a diffenrent date then scheduled for 1 or 2 specific dates?
My setup is this:
Every friday night I'm running a full backup, Mondag to Thursday I'm running af differential backup. First I do it to disk, and when that's done a linked job is started which do the same backup to tape. New tape very day, switched by hand.
I my country we have a national holiday next Friday, which means that no one are at the office, so the tape from Thursday can be switched, and I will not get a full backup for that week.
Is there someway, I can set it up to understand that on specfic dates, the full backup should be executeted on Fridays, but Thursdays instead?
I'm not found about switching it manually before and after each date, cause we got a lot at jobs, and the possiblility that we miss something is likely.
Regards
Lars
I am currently backing up VMWare ESXi 5.1 vms using backup exec 2012 on Server 2008 R2. I back up to disk, then duplicate to tape for off site storage. My current issue is that I only have enough space to hold 1 week of backups on site on disk, and after I ship the backups off site, I can't restore immediately from them.
To overcome, I have been duplicating to a second set of tapes on site. When I schedule the duplicate job to run daily at a specified time, it errors out stating cannot find media set. If I schedule it to run immediately after the source backup, it has no issue. The problem is, if I want to duplicate to both sets of tapes, I can't schedule them to both kick off immediately following the source backup because sometimes they try to duplicate the same VM and error out.
I want to try and hold or pause a tape drive to offset one of the duplicate jobs by an hour, and then programmatically unpause the tape drive to allow the job to proceed. Is there any way to schedule a device to release the hold, or a command to manage devices that I can create a scheduled task in windows to do this?
Hi guys,
Good morning,
I have in my environment an Windows Server 2K8 R2 with BU 2012 and SEP 12.1.4013 (I do not know exactly what it is) and my performance doing backups is very slow, really, a lot of (23 ~ 33MB/Min) and I know that the problem is SEP 'cause when i stop it (smc -stop) the rate increases for the normal speed (1.500 ~ 1.900 MB/Min)
I've already done the following instruction below: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH61909
My settings of the SEP aren't management by me.
What can I do to solving it ?
Thanks for any reply. Sorry for my English.

svp vraiment aidez moi à pouvoir sauvegarder mes base SQL.

A few weeks before Symantec weekly Full backup failed due to corrupt data but incremental worked fine, now incremental backup also fails due to corrpt data.
Can anyone help me to solve this issue?

Every day I get a flood of errors just like the one below. Looking back through the Event Log it looks like this started around the time I upgraded Backup Exec 2014 Beta 2 to the RTM build. It doesnt seem to be affecting anything, at least as far as I can tell. Does anyone know what these errors mean?
Thanks,
Gary

Hello,
I have the task to move a file server (VM, Windows Server 2008, around 800GB) to a new file server. The new file server will be also a VM with Windows Server 2012 R2. People are using Robocopy to perform this task.
This weekend I restored the data from Backup Exec which also restore the NTFS permissions. It takes far less time than Robocopy. It's great!
My question: next weekend I will definitely put the new file server in production. I intend to restore the files using BE again. I guess the option "restore only if newer" will only restore modified or new files from next week. Which means the restore job should be much quicker. Right?
The folder share I will move with exporting the share kexy in the registriy.
Thanks,
Edy
Dear all,
Please see file attached. I know that at the moment Windows Server 2012 R2 is not supported but my customer can wait for BE 2014.
Should I propose BE Server, BE Agent for Windows x 5, BE Agent for VMware and Hyper-V x 3 and BE Agent for Applications and Databases x 2 to cover my customer's envoirment?
Thanks in advance,
Maciej Wiszniewski
Bonjour,

Mes questions :
1/ Cela affecte-t-il l'intégrité de ma sauvegarde ?
2/ Pourquoi ce message s'est-il produit subitement ?
3/ Y a-t-il un moyen de corriger cela ?
Merci infiniment de vos conseils.
