I need a solution

Hi guys!

I have an odd issue with Backup Exec 2012.

This is how my backup environment look like :

  • 1 LTO-3 TAPE DRIVE With a 8-tapes loader.
  • Backup Exec 2012 (full patched)
  • Rentention of 1 week (6 days)
  • Append time of 12 hours
  • 5 servers to backup
  • Ratio of compression between 1.75-1.85 on each tape
  • Schedule : all backup jobs begin at 00:00

The 3 servers are backup on 1 tapes, the 2 last on an other tape.

The 1 tape still have 100Go free space and on the 2nd tape, only 36Go are used.

The compression ratio is around 1.75, So. The tape 1 should have enough space for the 2 last servers.

My append time should be ok! The last backup end at 6h00AM.

I included all screenshots for helping you to understand

Can you help me on this guys?

Thanks!

SBE 2012 SP2 is running on Server 2008R2

Weekly Incremental backup job on Server 2012 Hyper-V host rec'd the following message last night:

The job completed successfully.  However, the following conditions were encountered:  Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images.  Restores that use Granular Recovery Technology may not be available from this backup set.

Gives KB #V-79-10091 but after looking at that, it doesn't appear they apply to this situation.

Any thoughts?

Backup Exec 2010 R2 Media Sets

I have a question regarding Media Sets for Backup Exec 2010.  When I create a backup job and set it to use a particular Media Set "LTO2" the job set to use this Media Set will often use media associated with another media set even when media from LTO2 is loaded.  The media is not write protected and the retention period has expired.  An inventory shows the target media as overwritable and the job is configured to overwrite.  Any thoughts as to why this would occour?

Hallo,

Unable to make Tape storage work with BE 2012

I need a solution

Hello,

We are trying to setup a BE 2012 ( evaluation version ) to allow data backups on to tape drives.

Running BE 2012 on windows 8 server.

We have a Dells PV LT2000 connected to the server via SAS interface. We have a Robotic library with 12 LTO6 tape drives .

Under Slots , I can see the tape drives labelled with barcode labels , however tape drives are showing "0 bytes capacity"

Things I have checked/done :

* Tape drivers are installed.

* Autochanger drives are native to Windows , hence shows Unknown Autochanger device in Device Manager

When i try to clean the Tape Drive , it gives error. Export/Import and "Inventory now" both give errors.

Before we installed Windows 8 on the server , it had linux with Baculla. I had labelled Tape drive then and ran some checks on the tape which were a success.

Post that we decided to drop Baculla and go ahead with BE 2012. However , I am unable to make tape work with BE 2012

Followed tape troubleshooting steps mentioned in the link and all seems to be fine.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

I am not sure if I missed out anything or the issue is due to using bacula on tape drives before putting then on BE 2012.

If yes , how do i change it default ?

I have attached screen shots in the thread.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

I need a solution

I am trying to back up folders from my NAS. I am using credentials that have all the access needed (domain admin, local admin, log on as batch job, etc.). I test the credentials and it is successful on the NAS but unsuccessful on each folder (it cannot "log on" to a folder). I did a test backup and it failed. It is giving me the error in the subject and i cannot seem to find a work around.

Any ideas?

All,

Our backup job was cancelled and the error message " User cancelled a physical volume".

We thought that the tape getting full and needs more space. So we removed some backup directories to increase space for the tape.

The next day job completed successfully. But after that succesfull completion, the next day job failed.

The Backup job failed even after reducing the size.

Please see the attachment

Many Thanks

Backup Exec 2012 SP2 running on Server 2008 R2.

Backup job: ESXi

Completed status: Failed

Final error: 0xe0009b61 - Backup Exec could not log on to the server with the logon account specified for it. The logon account does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct in the logon account.
Final error category: Security Errors

This occurs despite the fact that the credentials succeed when testing the credentials. I thought this was supposed to be fixed with the SP2 update.

Does anyone know what else I can do to get this ESX backup job to run?

We are using Backup Exec 2012 sp2 on Server 2008 R2 and have a Data Domain DD160 with a file share.  Recently the DD160 shows up under the Storage tab as read-only.  If I go to the file share I am able to create and delete files and folders fine.  Any ideas on how to bring the DD160 to Read and Write again.

Thank you

Hi All,

When a catalog of a tape fails with the error " Catalog job fails with error: "0xe0000900" how can I tell if it read and cataloged the rest of the tape?  here is the portion of the job log that shows where the error occurs.  The catalog job entered quite a bit of data into the disk-based catalog for this tape.  See highlighted text below.  How can I tell if there are more sequences after sequence #7 on tape?  I have tried to reinventory and catalog several times with same error.  Thanks, Linda

Backup Exec 12.5 with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

I need a solution

Everything I've read says that Backup Exec 12.5 is not compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit as a media server.  However, I've run into an installation where 12.5 is installed and working fine on a 2008 R2 media server.  It was previously backing up to tape but is now backing up to disk.  It's even backing up a couple of other servers through the remote agent.  It's running Backup Exec 12.5 with SP4 plus various hotfixes/updates.

I believe this may have been initially installed back when 2008 R2 was very new if that matters.

So, what is the issue with 12.5 running on 2008 R2 media server exactly?  Will it just not install?  Are there functional issues?  If this is installed and seems to be working, should I leave it?

Thanks

Catalog Fails

I run the same job every night to a different USB drive.  It works everyday except one where the job just Queues and sits there until I put a different drive on.  When I do an inventory and catalog on the drive it tells me the inventory was a success but the catalog fails and tells me that I should run the inventory.  I do and the inventory passses again and the catalog fails again.  How do I get this drive back into the rotation?  Do I have to delete the drive from storage and reformat the drive.  Will that clean this up?

BE 2012: Local Install for RAWS grayed out?

I need a solution

Hi all.

I have this newly built 2008 R2 server that is to become a Hyper-V host soon.  The OS is patched fully, but nothing else is installed.  Windows is activated.  It is a non-domain server and has no network connection yet.  (It used to via DHCP, so I could do LiveUpdate, but I've since set to static but it is not connected)

I've successfully installed the core product/media server and LU says my product is already up to date.  When I go to install the RAWS agent on this media sever, I the option is grayed out.  The only option is this "Create Transform set' or someting which relates to Active Directory, and this is not a domain server so I know this option doesn't apply.

This leaves no option to install local RAWS.  My first though is that maybe local RAWS is a default part of just installing the media server, but if I run the Backup Exec Agent Utility it sess nothing.

Next I will try to use BE itself to push the agent locally, but is that what I shiould be doing?  Is it normal that a local install option is available, yet grayed out?

Thank you.

Backing up vm's through SAN

I need a solution

Hi guys,

This is my 3rd question in 10 days. Hoping I can get some more help. I am still evaluating backup Exec 2012 and for the life of me cannot get the vm's backed up through the vcenter using the SAN transport mode. I can back them up through the esx directly (using SAN transport mode) and get an average rate of around 8GB/minute. When I back up through the vcenter, I am only getting rate sof 500MB/minute and all the traffic is flowing through the NIC. NBD option seems to be working fine.

Since the vm's are going through the SAN when backing up the ESX, I know the media server can see the LUN's. I went through a lot of articles and everything seems to be in place - vcenter/esx licenses, account used to backup have admin privileges.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

thanks

Raj

Need help restoring BKF files from External Drive - Backup Exec 12.5

I need a solution

I am getting frustrated with this Backup Exec 12.5!

I need to figure out how to restore .bkf files from an external drive.

I was told to do an Inventory and then Catalog the files. Then I can restore. Its not working, im getting an error.

Heres what I did...

Went to Devices tab, Clicked on the Removable Back Up to Disk Folder 1. Everything shows up on the right of the screen (all the bkf's).

I tested this by right clicking on one of those bkf files and clicking Inventory.

The job ran and completed successfully. Where or what that inventory does I have no idea?

So then I went back to the file, right clicked on it and selected Catalog.

This runs for a few minutes and then fails with...

Error category : Backup Media Errors
Error : e0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-2304

So it just fails on you. Ive been searching the forums but I just cant figure out what everyone is saying.

If someone could break down the process and get me to where I need to be (to be able to restore old or new bkf files if needed),

I would greatly appreciate it.

Another issue I noticed is... I restored files before, but they were usually within the same week, or the next day after someone accidentally

deleted a file. I would go into restore, View by Resource, select the server and follow through the directory until I find the file needed.

Now, if I do that, from the most current backup date (9/25) to the fursthest (8/27), there are NO files listed and it looks like all the folders

have that little lock on them, which I was told means they are partialized. How can I get that back to being able to view and restore whatever has

been saved on the external server drive throughout the week? Now I have to do the same thing as my last issue and inventory/catalog all

the new files that were just backed up? Why are they not saving?

If someone who knows this stuff wants to help me out... Thank  you very much! Ughh im pulling my hair out!

I have a licensing question regarding BE 2010 R3. Will I need the basic app license for every media server I deploy? Will I also need the remote agent for Windows license on each media server? How much does each license cost?

Using Backup Exec 2012

Problem:  Unable to run a restore.  Receive the error:  "The logon account that was provded is not a member of the Administrators group.  Verify that the data that you selected was backed up.  Additional privileges may be required to access the data on the Windows computer.."

Troubleshooting I performed:

  • Ran the BE Support Tool to check service account credentials: The results:  Create Token Object = not set, Log on as a Batch Job = not set, and Log on as a Service = not set.
  • Verified the following  BESA rights are correct under Local policy on media server, and in GPO:
  •    -  Act as part of the os
  •    -  Backup files and directories
  •    -  Create a token object
  •    -  Log on as a batch job
  •    -  Log on as a service
  •    -  Manage autiting and security log
  •    -  Restore files and directories
  •    -  Take ownership of files and other objects.
  • Verified BESA is listed in AD Administratiors group.
  • Added BESA to the local Administrators group.
  • Ran  gpudate /force (even though I did not change a polcy setting).
  • Verified under Services.msc that the following are running and assigned to the BESA:
  •    - BE Device & Media Service
  •    - BE Server Service
  •    - BE Job Enginer
  • Verified under Services.msc that the other BE services are running..

Any help is much appreciated.
