I need a solution

Hi everyone,

i was given the charge to take the backups of domain controllers and exchange servers.
i have deployed the agents on Domain controllers(2008R2,2003) and exchange servers.
for exchange server 2007 i have installed management tool on the backup server for GRT

Experts guide me the exact procedure to take backups.
I am planning to take weekly full backup and daily system state backup.
or should i take daily differential backups and weekly full backup.
what is perfect way to take backups for exchange 2007(GRT) experts guide me.

Server Crashed where Symantec application was installed.

I need a solution

Dear All,

We are sing symantec backup exec, the application was installed on 2008 windows server. A couple of days before our server was crashed on which our symantec backup application was installed. We are taking backup on tapes through this one.

I am looking for solution that how can I install this application on other server to make my taped again online as I need some backup urgently and it is also critical as we are unable to take all backups including our Exchange Server.

Success with Exceptions - NDMP Back-up.

I need a solution
A few of my jobs have been finishing with "succes with exceptions".
 
Is there any way to see what the below exception message is referring to?
 
I have expanded all the information in the Job Log and there is nothing other than the following line listed. I have expanded ever single section expecting it to find a specific path or file that was skipped/not found in the NetApp Volume but nothing, zilch, nadda.

GRT-Enabled Backups on GPT-Partitioned VMware-VMDKs

Hi,

 

I just run into the Issue, that GRT-Enabled Backups via AVVI on GPT-Partitioned VMDKs in VMware fail with an exception and are not supported as stated in the SCL.

Does anyone know the technical background of this limitation and if there might be a chance to get this feature later on with another ServicePack ?

I wonder because it seems to be possible with Micsoroft Hyper-V based VMs (according to the SCL: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH217478&key=15047&basecat=COMPATIBILITY_LIST&actp=LIST ).

The problem is, that 2TB+ Volumes are getting more common even for smaller customers and doing agent level backups in VMs prevent me from doing SAN-based backups, which are way faster especially with FC. Switching off GRT is also not an option as this is one of the most basic backup features and about 75% of my restore jobs are single-file or directory based restores on file servers.

Perform TEST Recovery of Exchange 2010 Database to verify backup copy

Hello All,

I'm looking to perform TEST recovery for exchange 2010 DB, I need to do this excersise in order to check what I am taking backup FULL DB on weekly basis is working as expected in case of any disaster. But I 've no idea how to do this because exchange always works with AD, if in test setup there is no AD how I can make sure all is working as expected.

The most important is to check backed up database state is in working condition after restore, honestly I don't know in order to check this AD is required or not. 

I request community members to assist on this please and help me in checking this. We are using Backup Exec 2012 with SP4 to take full DB backup of our exchange server.

Appreciate help.

Hitachi HNAS3080 Full Backup failed Full half way .

Initially We were using Backup exec 2010R3 with windows server agent to back up our file servers data , On May 2013 we have brought Hitachi HNAS 3080 and replaced with Windows file server.
We have configured NDMP backup for our new File server HNAS3080. We have tired our best and we could not able configure it. Because Symantec Backup exec is not supported for HNAS3080 NDMP.
Backup is very important for our environment and we decided to use Netbackup with temp license. Netbackup is officially supported for HNAS 3080.
Later in May-2014 Symantec has released SP and started officially support HNAS 3080. We have configured backup, when I start full backup Backups are getting failed after writing some of amount data and sating FC_error kind of generic error SMS.
I have decided to test network backup without zoning HNAS 3080 with tape Drives. The backup files will get transfer to Backup Media server from HNAS 3080 and will write to tape from media server, media server is attached with tape library. This is how taking backup are currently and its taking huge time for backup windows.
I have logged call with Symantec and working for more than 80 Days, Still here and there analysis going but nothing is happening towards resolution.

Can you help me on this case if possible.

Restoring a backup from a server that is no longer in Server list

I need a solution

Due to a recent policy change, our servers had to be rebuilt and renamed. Now I need to recover some files from the old backup sets but can seem to figure out how to restore them since the server is not in the Server List on the "Backup and Restore" tab. Is there anyway to do this?

Exec view 6.1 restore from tape help

I need a solution

I am trying to restore data from a old backup tape the tape is a "LTO Ultrium 1"

 

I have the old tape drive installed on a old server turned desktop PC running windows 7 32bit. 

 

I can see the tape drive in device manager but not under removable storage under My Computer.

 

I installed the old software they had from 1996 Exec View to try and recover the data off the tape. I also installed Backup Exec 2014 trial to try and get the data off the tape as well. I cannot seem to find where to go for the software to see or find the tape? I have never used any of this software before if someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

My objective here is to restore data from a few old LTO 1 tapes the server it used to run on is no longer in service.

Hey guys! How are you? 

I need help with another project please. In this oportunity i need make an scenario with 3 Windows Server, a tape library and a SAN/iSCSI Netapp's Storage. All the server will be connect to the SAN via FC HBA or iSCSI and will be backup by SAN (Off-host).

What licenses do i need? i suppose 1 Backup Exec Server + 3 AWS but i don't know how the SAN connection impacts in the licensing.

Can you help me pls¿?

Hello,

My support contract expired in April of this year and since I missed the renewal period for a product that has been giving me constant headaches I have to pay Symantec $1,500 before they will even talk to me. So I'm hoping I can get some help on the forums while I wait for the budget to buy new backup software.

I have a SBS 2011 server with Backup Exec 2012 SBS. I have all the latest updates installed on the server all the way up to SP4.

I am trying to verify my disaster recovery plan so I created a virtual machine with a new SBS 2011 install and Backup Exec 2012 with again all the updates, all the way up to SP4.

On the virtual test machine backup Exec runs perfectly fine, and I am able to plug in our external backup drive (we backup to rotating external drives) and Backup Exec detects it perfectly fine. The issue is when I go to restore exchange and other items. 

This backup drive had a full backup (not incremental) run on 10/29/14. I have a Job Log file that says the job ran at this time and it was successful. Great!

So I inventory and catalog the drive on the virtual server that I am using as my test bench. I go to restore exchange and the only backup it has is from 10/20/14 and it only has only one mailbox database and the public folder database, we have 3 other databases that are included in the backup but they are completely missing.

Does anyone know what the issue might be? My apologies if there is any information that I should include which I'm, but I'm not sure what is relevant here. The Databases are selected in the backup, the job log says everything was fine, and the job is set to full (although I have another incremental job that runs to a NAS drive, I assume that shouldn't affect anything, but that assumption could be wrong).

Hi All, 

i have some problem with Symantec backup exec 2012 installed in windows server 2012 and backing up virtual machines.

sometimes backup running full or incremental the results succes with exception. but today backup failed with error :

Backup- \\[Server_backup]\C:

Storage device "Deduplication Storage:4" reported an error on a request to read data from media.

Error reported:

No more data is on the tape.

V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

Storage device "Deduplication Storage:4" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:

V-79-57344-34028 - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.

If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

If the storage is disk based, check that the storage subsystem is functioning properly.  Review any system logs or vendor specific logs associated with the storage to help determine the source of the problem.  You may also want to check any vendor specific documentation for troubleshooting recommendations.

Backup Job is missed?

Our backup duplicate job to shared device status is always missed and when the schedule is coming up to backup, "Ready,The Backup Exec Server that the catalog requested is not available to process this job" is written in the job status? Why?what ı have to do? and where is configuration  the scheduled time window?

I want to restore data from an old backup

the original backup was made in BE 2010, and i want to restore on BE 2014

i have insert the tape to the auto loader and started a Catalog operation

I have inserted only the desired tape. other tapes of the backup set are offline as they are not inside the auto loader

After cataloging 400 GB, the catalog stauts became - Active   - Queued  - Catalog

and the tape was ejected.

the tape got a weird icon on the storage page

picture attched.

What does this icon means?

what can i do in order to catalog the tape?

how to restore data when one tape is missing from the backup set

I need a solution

We have the need to restore old data from a backup set that contains 5 tapes

Only one tape is present, the others are missing.

I want to restore the data that are located on the tape that i have

i have inserted the tape to the auto loader in order to Catalog and Inventory

Invetroy was done

i have selected the tape in the Storage menu, and press Catalog

it seems that BE tries to Catalog the entire set and not only the tape i have inserted,.

How can i force BE to Catalog only that specific tape, as i want to restore from that tape only. and the other tapes are not present

problème approbation entre serveur backup exec et agent Windows

Bonjour,
 
Je n'arrive pas à établir d'approbation entre le serveur backup Exec (en version 2014 SP1) et un des mes serveurs sur le quel l'agent Windows est installé.
J'ai essayé ces 2 méthodes :
 
- Onglet "Sauvegarde et Restauration", clic-droit "Etablir l'approbation" sur le serveur concerné, ça "mouline" quelques minutes puis ça se termine sans aucun message.
 
- L'utilitaire de l'agent Backup Exec (à partir du serveur sur lequel je veux établir l'approbation), onglet "Publication", dans la liste le serveur Backup Exec  apparait mais je ne peux pas lui ajouter les informations d'authentification, j'obtiens cette erreur si je valide : "L'approbation entre le serveur Backup Exec et l'agent for Windows ne peut etre établie. La communication a échoué. Voulez-vous vraiment supprimer le serveur Backup Exec de la liste ?"
 
Ce problème est apparu suite à l'application d'un patch sous la version 2012. La mise à jour vers 2014 Sp1 n' a pas résolu mon problème.
 
Voudriez-vous me dire ce que vous en pensez

Server Application Error - Unable to Insert Policy

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a new server with a fresh install of BE 2014 as the media server on a Windows 2012R2 OS . I added a few servers to backup and when I try and do a Disk to Tape backup or a duplicate to tape backup I receive the error message "Server Application Error-Unable to Insert Policy".

Symantec Tech support tried running a repair in control panel but problem still exist.  I did not migrate any jobs from my BE2010 jobs. Just basically doing some testing on BE2014.  This issue exist before I promoted the server to Central Administror Server.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue? Is it common? Should I just uninstall and reinstall BE2014 as we have a second test server that we are not seeing this issue on.  I read some article on BE2012 that had this problem with bad encryption keys but this did not resolve my issue.

Backup Exec 2014 - Duplicating Synthetic Backups

I also posted this over on Spiceworks, but figured I'd post it here too in hopes of expediting a solution.  I just upgraded from 2010 to 2014 SP1, and while everything appears to be OK for the most part, I did run into a situation with my Synthetic backups.

In 2010 I had a policy template set up to run an Incremental daily, then a synthetic weekly and a synthetic monthly.  The monthly synthetic superseded the weekly synthetic, and then I had duplication to tape jobs set to trigger upon completion of the weekly/monthly synthetic.  The duplication job used a different media set depending on whether a weekly or monthly synthetic had been run.

After upgrading to BE 2014, all the synthetic jobs appeared to come through (the weekly and the monthly), but when I edit the backup definition only the weekly synthetic and weekly duplication jobs are not shown.  I kind of get the impression that what I'm did (or at least the way I did it) are not supported in 2014?  I'm looking for some insight on how I can duplicate my synthetic jobs to a weekly media set the first 3-4 weeks of each month, and then have them duplicate to a monthly media set the last week of each month.  If duplication jobs could supersede each other it would be easy, but apparently they cannot.

Here's what I see in BE 2014:
