Hi Symantec support, I have a overland neoseries tape library. with that in palce, i also have a server with win 2008 R2 standard edition. I need to know how to setup this library, efficiently. How would BE2014 know what tape to use and on which day it must use it.

we are doing full backup every night and then morning we started we sent duplicate some other storage device over wan but the full backup size 3-4 gb on the other hand the duplicate job takes 100-200 gb so we have to cancel job for release bandwith over wan. why? the differences so much also we selected option most recent full backup. Or any way to limit bandwith usage to sent over wan?

We use BackupExec 2012 SP4 to backup (with an agent installed) a 2008 r2 server that holds among other things a small sql (CCSSQL).
The schedualed backup of the server usually fails with the response code: V-79-57344-34108, An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly resynchronized with the original volumes.
But, whenever I choose to manually backup it, by clicking on 'Run next backup now', the job is always succesful.
The job fails because it cannot verify a couple of files, but I have to backup them, they seem to be important.
i've already tried all the the KB regarding code V-79-57344-34108 and non of them seem to apply to my problem.
Did any one encounter such a mystery?

I have backup exec 2012 R2 performing full backups of my SQL servers nightly. I want to add transaction log backups to the jobs. My question is:
- One of my larger SQL servers takes approximately 14 hours to perform the full backup. I want the transacation log (incremental) backup to run every 4 hours throughout the day. What will happen when the full is running and the next transaction log backup is scheduled to fire? I don't see a way for me to tell the incremental to only run between certain hours (which would be ideal)

I have 2 Backup jobs created in backup exec and before we just had 2 drives for LTO5 tapes, recently we have added 2 new LTO6 drives.
I would like to know how can i do to optimize the backup time using all drives for our 2 lists, i mean can i assing 2 drives for a job? and the others for the second one?

I have a problem with backup exec 2012, I can not do backup exchange 2010 Mailbox server and I get this error v-79-57344-37930.
I explain the last weekend they wanted to implement on that server exchange 2010 DAG, however they failed to make that change so it stays with the same exchange 2010 Mailbox server.
Now the problem is that by the exec backup tool can not do this alone backup server to the other servers if you are backing up properly.
I restarted the mail server still does not get to the backup server exec communicate with the agent installed on the mail server. Ping when I backup exec server to the mail server if you respond.

We have a central vCenter with 3 locations connected across a WAN 10Mbits/sec.
After switching to BE2014 we have found out that the network is bottlnecking while the Backup are running.
I'm seing about 600MBytes of data within 60 mins.
We backup in SAN mode and BE & SAN are on the same subnet.
From what I know, only API calls are supposed to go through vCenter.
Any idea on how to fix this?
We're running a BE2010 r3 and BE2012 server currently.
This weekend we will be switching from BE2010r3 to 2014. Fresh install etc. I do not need advice here.
What I do need help with is:
We use small tape loaders (8 slots), and are not using barcodes. We manually label the tape for which servers are on that tape.
With BE2010 I have
1 job that does a full backup all of our SQL servers (about 21 of them). I then have a job that takes that data on that one storage target and writes it all to a single tape. This is our SQL tape
1 job that does a full backup of our fileshares (several drives) and writes those to a different tape, this is the file share tape
1 Job that is for an excessively large SQL server, this as well writes to it's own tape
Having worked with 2012... it doesn't look like I can actually group the duplicate jobs to make sure they all land on one tape. I've seen posts about partitioning the tape loader, but that really isn't super helpful as I may at one point need to migrate a job on the 2012 environment over and that one has a job that uses 6 tapes.
Is it possible, other than partitioning the tape drive, to tell BE "I want you to write to the same tape as these servers"?

Refering to the article I post to Symantec below, I have experienced identical issue in TECH216099 on my BE2014 that is with same error message from BE2012 customers and when I log a support case they advise this is BE2014 product so I have to do the troubleshooting from scratch again as the issues is for BE2012. I have sent them the logs and advise the log level is not enough so I have to restart the painful debugging process and wait for issues reoccuring and going backward and forward with Symantec support that can take another months.

My concern is if the issues is not fixed in BE2012 and the issues is carried on to BE2014. Now I have to restart all the troubleshooting and log collection with Symantec as they already have enough information to open the TECH216099 with BE2012. Also in the past for another TECH201425 that has been opened for almost 2 years, I am facing the same issues. I call up with Symantec support, report the issues that I find is identical to the TECH201425 has been identified is a known issues not yet fix in BE2012 (SAME SITUATION TO THIS ONE). The Symantec support insist to do a log collection and go through a lengthly process for the debug, troubleshooting for weeks and without update until I push to Baseline Engineer and Duty Manager. Over the phone they then admit the issues not yet fix in BE2012 has been carried over to to BE2014. I have to insist the to update the product to included BE2014 and it take almost a month for them to update the TECH201425 to include BE2014 as affected product.

Now for TECH216099 I have to go through the same process again??? Isn't this is a known issues already without fixing it by Symantec in previous version BE2012 that probably will not be fixed and the issues is now been carried over again to BE2014? Why symantec customer has to suffer twice to go through the lengthly and painful symantec support process since a TECH216099 has been issues and is understand investigation by Symantec. It has been pending for outcome of the investigation according to the article for past 7 months. What is the outcome of the investigation?
This issue is currently under investigation by Symantec Corporation. Pending the outcome of the investigation, this issue may be resolved by way of a patch or hotfix in current or future revisions of the software. However, this particular issue is not currently scheduled for any release.

i perform Backup-To-Disk Jobs on our NAS. After the fullbackup there is a job which duplicates the fullbackup. These bkf-Files are copied to a USB-Disk. What has to be done to restore files from the full-Backup stored on the USB-Disk?

Just installed BE2014r1 on a brandnew server with Windows 2012R2.
I'm trying to connect an Dell/IBM 114T LTO3 with BE2014 but it cant get it recognized in BE2014.
I've tried running the "configure storage'' wizard but at the end it wont find any devices.
After that i've checked the Windows Device manager. The default Microsoft driver is installed en it show up as an IBM ULTRIUM-TD3 SCSI Sequential Device
Finally I installed the IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool and when it recognized the device I ran some tests which were all fine/PASSED
Does anyone have a suggestion to get this setup working?

We ran Live Update to get BE2014 up to SP1. After waiting approx 20 mins for update to complete we received "LV1801: Live update was cancelled". It then prompted us to re-run LU which I did - it then responds "All of the Symantec products and components installed on your computer are currently up-to-date."
Our version number reports Backup Server: V.14.1 Rev. 1786 (32-bit) Admin Console: V.14.1 Rev. 1786.1059 (32-bit)
Please advise what this error means and what if anything needs to be done at this time.

BE 2012, standalone, no CASO.
I get backing-up the catalog to off-site media, and I see why I should backup System_State:\ (if I want to be able to restore Windows Event Logs for later inspection) but I don't see a need to backup the installed BE binaries, nor the C:\Windows folder (apart from a few config files, e.g. the \drivers\etc\hosts file - and maybe a few others) - because surely BE cannot be used to SDR itself - and that instead recovering a standalone BE server will always involve installing a fresh O/S, installing and configuring BE, importing the catalog backup and then restoring the catalog backup.
So, do poeple generaly forgoe backing-up most of C:\Windows, and also forgoe backing-up BE application binaries, on standalone BE servers?

We are using Backup Exec 2014 with SP1 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
All updates have been applied to BE.
The following options have been set in the Storage configuration:
- Overwrite recyclable media contained in the targeted media set before overwriting scratch media.
- Allow backup exec to delete all expired backup sets
The configuration is as follows:
- Data retention of 2 weeks
- One full backup on friday and daily incremental backups.
- backup to disk configuration on a QNAP
- All media have now the status 'expired'
- The disk is full and the backup cannot proceed because disk is full.
When browsing to the disk there is a @recycle folder with several terrabytes of 'recycled' data, why is this folder not deleted?
In the backup to disk folder, there are all the other backup to disk folders which have not been deleted.
When I manually click on 'Expire' on the backup to disk sets, the sets get expired and storage is getting free'd up.
Why is this not happening automatically? All services are running and no errors are generated.
This is a fresh Backup Exec 2014 installation, nothing has been migrated.

I am new to backupexec and tapes .
I am having some very slow backup speed using lt03 so have some questions as below and appreicate your help
1.with LT03 should I expect 160MB/s as read/write speed as per the specification ?
2.with LT03 when it says 400/800GB is that 400GB with 1:1 compression and 800GB with 1:2 ? If so why does sources on internet says backing up with compression enabled is faster as I would have thought it takes more time to compress and then write hence slower speed?
3.we are getting around 1000MB to 2000MB max for exchange backup, what is the speed you are seeing on average ?
4.is there a way to change MB per minute to second ?
5.what is the difference between kernel mode and usermode driver for tape ?
6.How can I know if my tape drive has 2 drives so can do two jobs ? the tape drive we have is tl2000 dell and has 2 bunch of 8 slots i think so I would have thought it can do 2 jobs at the same time but it can only do 1 job .

Backup Exec 2012 SP4 with all patches.
When running a verify or restore for a duplicate or backup job that spans more than 1 tape the job fails with:
"An inconsistency was encountered on the storage media in Tape drive 0001. V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent."
The job fails once it loads the second tape in the set. Restores of data on the first tape are successful. No encryption is used, happens both with and without compression. Using symantec drivers. Running tracert during the job shows the second tape is loaded and begins to read then after several minutes backup exec ejects the tape and fails the job. Tried setting the registry key to disable Fast File Restore with same result. Happens with multiple tapes both new and old and multiple jobs.
