Backup Exec 2012 Duplicate Synthetic Full to tape

I need a solution

Running Backup Exec 2012 build 1798 (SP3).  I've created a job that has completed an initial full back (to dedupe disk), incrementals (to disk) and finally a synthetic backup (to dedupe disk).

I have also included a stage for duplication of the backup to tape - a task for duplication of the incremental and a task for duplication of the full via "duplicate data immediately after source task completes," where the drop down options are "Full" and  "Incremental".  There is no selection for source "Synthetic Full"  

I incorrecly assumed that the duplication off the full backup would include the synthetic full, but once the synthetic full completed a duplication to tape did not occur.

How do I setup an automated duplication to tape of the Synthetic Full Backup?

Agent for VMWare Backup Speed

what kind of speed are you getting from your agent for vmware backup?

Backup Exec Server 2012 sp3 is Windows 2008 R2 64 bit with 1 GB Link

Vmware is 5.0 Latest update with 1 GB managemnt link

using NBD without any GRT -  seeing speeds of about 2000-2500MB/min

is anyone getting better than this? 

 

anyone seeing much better than this? does 10GB ethernet make a big difference in this setup?

should i be doing SAN transport mode?

Error ED800012: The internal structure of the image file (LastFile Frame) is invalid, damaged or unsupported

I created using BE 7.0 on a win xp machine, a backup of a 750G hard drive, where 50% was drive C for windows, the other half for miscl data.  I do a weekly archive and a daily incremental.  I had a hard drive crash, but thankfully I had a backup.  In trying to restore files from the backup, I got the above error.  I've had several phone conversations from India and have gotten nowhere in reading the file.  They seem to know as much as I know and have had me try just what the manual says.  I really thought they would know something I didn't know.  I suspect the 250G file, an archive file, has errors, but nobody can tell me what is wrong.  It would seem reasonable that Symantec would have a program that would test the file and say why they don't like it.

How can I get a higher level of support, I'm wasting my time with India.  I also get emails from Symantec saying there is a new plan of action, so I log into my account and find nothing but a log, nothing said about what the plan of action is. 

If the files cannot be recovered, my losses will be in the thousands of dollars.  When the backup was created, there was no indication of errors, not until I attempted to either restore the hard drive or restore files.

I've searched this forum for hours and haven't found my problem listed.  I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

Any suggestions, how can I get US support, I've gotten nowhere with India.

Backup Exec 2010 r3 Encryption Questions

When encrypting backup exec tape, the encryption requires a passphrase but I believe it is also tied to the user, so a quick scenario based question.

Backing up two servers, a domain controller and a file server.

Backup exec user is a service account  DomainXYZ\backupservice  is the user.  I will use the service account (tied to AD) and a password to encrypt the tapes (and set it to common not restricted).

If I lose AD, and need to restore AD as well as the File server, and since I lost AD lost I would lose that service account, would I still be able to retrieve the encrypted data?

Hi,

I am getting this error only on this one virtual machine. My backups are working on all other servers and VMs.

My issue is very similar to what is described in this post, https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/be2012-and-remote-agent-connection-target-system-lost

But for me, IPV6 is already disabled.

Ideas?

I need a solution

I will be installing Backup Exec v 2012 in a new deployment soon. The location of the deployment does not have fast Internet service, so I have already downloaded and burned Backup Exec 2012 to DVD. But I'm sure that once it is installed and functional the first thing it will want to do is download and install several hundred MB of updates.

 

Is there a way to download the updates in advance, so they can be applied to a server without going through the web at the time the update is installed?

I have Backup Exec 2012 SP3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 backing up a Microsoft Exchange 2007 server on a D2D2T backup plan with weekly full and daily incremental backups to deduplication store and linked copy jobs to a LTO tape library. Yesterday I modified the job and took care to run the full backup manually to avoid Backup Exec's complaint about changed job settings on the incremental job. That full backup completed successfully. Today I find the nightly incremental job has failed with the error:

V-79-57344-862 - Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft Exchange wurde nicht verwendet, um das letzte vollständige Backup dieser Datenbank zu erstellen. Führen Sie ein vollständiges Backup mit Exchange Agent aus, bevor Sie ein Differenzial- oder inkrementelles Backup ausführen.

(Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft Exchange wasn't used to produce the last full backup of this database. Perform a full backup with Exchange Agent before you perform a differential or incremental backup.)

Me: "Huh? But I just did!"

What might have caused that error and what should I do to fix it?

Copy job copied all jobs instead of last one

I have Backup Exec 2012 SP3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 backing up a few VMs from an ESXi host on a D2D2T backup plan with weekly full and daily incremental backups to deduplication store, linked copy jobs to a LTO tape library, and a monthly copy job of the last full tape backup to a standalone drive for off-site storage.

Last week I modified that job, removing one of the VMs. Today I find the monthly off-site copy has five times the size of the last weekly full it should be a copy of, and consequently did not fit onto the intended tape. Looking in the job log I see it has copied the last four full backups instead of just the last one as I requested.

What might have caused that misbehaviour and how can I avoid that in the future?

Hello,

I am currently using BE 2010 R3 SP4, with HP LTO5 & remote agents for Windows 2003/2008 and VSphere 4.1 with NBD transport

I would like to know if it is now worth upgrading to BE 2012 SP3 or wait for a next major release ? I remember there had been many problems with reliability, speed, performance at the launch of BE 2012.

So I would be glad to have your feedback about it please

How to cancel jobs waiting for a tape

I have Backup Exec 2012 SP3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 backing up several servers on a D2D2T backup plan with weekly full and daily incremental backups to deduplication store and linked copy jobs to a LTO tape library. Right now, because of problems during the last weekend, the last weekly copies to tape haven't completed yet. Consequently, all the daily copy jobs from last night are sitting with job status "Ready; No inactive devices available". This is inconvenient because it prevents me from looking at those jobs' settings, let alone modify them. Is there a way to cancel these jobs before they get a device?

Hello friends.

So, we have several virutual servers we have been backing up for about 6 months or so.  Back in December, we started getting error V-79-57344-38277 - Job failed with following error: Unable to open a disk of the Virtual Machine.

- Oddly enough - the error code lookup doesn't match the actual error. We arn't restoring, we DO have access rights etc.

My partner here at work worked through a solution with Tech support back in December, (Ticket# 05793833) that fixed the problem, for about a week. Now it's back with a vengance.  all 6 of my Vservers fail nightly. Until recently haven't been able to have much time to work on it till now.  (upgrading our office from Windows 95 to Windows XP....kidding).

We ARE licensed for VM usage for BE 2010r3

Does anybody have any insight to this?

I just need to confirm what type of incremental does Symantec BE 2012 do? When we create backup job, there are two option available FULL and INCREMENTAL.

Is it incremental cumulative or incremental differential?

Today i have confuse some setting on Backup exec 2012 on windows server 2008   . 

 

Detail as below image. Picture SNAG-0095

Yesterday i insert the tape  and see the "Media Properties"  

in Overwrite protected until: Overwriteable

in Appendable until: Not appendable 9 End marker unreadable

 

Today morning tape automatic eject .  And i push tape in media.

and see the "Media Properties"  

in Overwrite protected until: 2/26/2014

in Appendable until: Infinite - Allow append

 

How to different from status yesterday ?

Catalog and Restore Problem

BE 2010 R3/WS2003

I have a bad catalog and am trying to fix it.  In the meantime, I am trying to restore a file after cataloging the tapes and am getting the following message:

The job failed with the following error: Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
 
I have checked the following:
 
1.  that the RAWS agent version is the same on both the media server and the remote server
2.  Retyped the password for the administrator account for all BE services
 
I don't know what else to check and am hoping for some suggestions.

But my backup job is failing while taking backup of on of the Encrepted directory.  Will you please tell me backup exec 12.5 can backup encrepted directory or not.  

Also please provide me article regarding this issue if you have.

Symantec 2012 Email Archiving

Hello.I am using Backup Exec 2012.And i wanna use Mail archiving feature.But when i am configuring archiving store for mailarchive he gives me error.

 "For the Archiving Option, an error occurred while connecting to the enterprise Vault Storage API.Ensure that the Enterprise Vault Storage Service is running."

I changed place to the remote server and local server and shared it.I checked user account permissions and restarted all services again.There is enough space in the disk.

After long time back I am back.......smiley

Ok comming straight to the topic...

I have the following details:-

1. BE 2012 SP1 on MS Windows 2008 R2.

2. Tape Library (4 nos. of FC drive).

3. SAN switch (2 nos.).

4. SAN Storage.

5. LUN are mounted in different servers(7-8 nos. of servers) from the storage. These LUN are taken backup.

 

Now, we are currently taking LAN based backup from all these server to tape library.

Speed..defently a issue. As data size are around 1 TB apprx. on each server and thses data need to be backed up every day (Full backup).

Which defently a big deal for us.

Now, we are upgrading to Enterprise License.

And planning to install the media server on each server so that we can put the data directly to the tapes.
