Our scan shows that the symantec key strength is not strong enough. "Replace the current certificate with one using a high-grade public key strength of 2048 bits or higher" and "Reconfigure the affected application to use a high-grade encryption cipher."

And in this script Powershell ISE marked string 333 as error syntax:

Why did this happen? This is first question.

I've got the following situation:
4 Disks:
Disk 0 -> System (C:)
Disk 1 -> DB (D:)
Disk 2 -> Logs (E:)
Disk 3 -> DB2 D:_Second Storage
The Mountpoint from Disk 3 is D:\Second Storage so it's attached to Disk 1.
We are doing vmware backups, not agent backups what would take to much time.
The problem is its not possible to restore GRT Data from Disk 3.
The exeption is the following:
V-79-57344-38748
Do you think its a supportet to backup attached storage like this with grt data?
All other disks are restorable without problems.
The Backup Exec Administrator's guide doesn't tell me it's unsupported.

I have Backup Exec 2012 running on a VM. The operating system is a Windows Server 2008R2 Standard. The tape drive is a Dell PVT132.
In storage I see the following;
Robotic library 0002
Tape drive 0001
DELL PV-132T-SDLT320
Tape drive 0002
DELL PV-132T-SDLT320
If I start a job, tape Drive will light green but the media gets there. You will see in the attachments that the tape leaves storage but after 20 mins, the job still stays in queue.
I have BE2014 on windows 2008 r2. The Job runs every saturday at 23.00: first saturday of the week is a full job, the second saturday is an incremental job, the third is a full job and the fourth is an incremental job.
I need to retain two full and two incremental backups. After this the first full backup must be deleted to have enough space to repeat the circle. BE can delete also the first incremental backup (that is orphane of first full backup).
Data retention is 1 week.
The question is how to delete automatically older full backup before new mounth backup starts.

After a while I've changed the cleaning tape in an autoloader. Be 2014 (on windows 2008 r2) recorgnized the Cleaning tape in the slot.
The error is "clean drive 0002 -- the job failed with the following error: library error - attempt to clean a drive in a library with expired or bad cleaning media."
Also the error in the Job log is "V-79-57344-34028 - A backup storage read/write error has occurred. If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive. Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again. If the problem persists, try a different tape. You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues. "
How to say to BE2014 that the cleaning tape cassette is new?

We have Backup Exec 2015. we have a license for Hyper-v agent installed on a hyper-v server. we can backup guest servers on this hyper-v host using the GRT option and this grt option is available as a restore option. However we cannot seem to get the restore to succeed. Each time the Backup Exec server fails the job saying that it cannot contact the remote agent. Reading the documentation it implies that we can:
backup guest servers at the GRT level WITHOUT an agent installed
but we need an agent installed on the guest server to successfully run a grt restore - is this correct ?, and why is this ?

We are upgrading from BUE 10d and attempting to make 15 work.
We have 10d installed on a 2003 server, while 15 is on a 2008. I have already learned the hard way that BUE 15 doesn't really like the old 10d catalog files.
We have also figured out that we need to take steps to upgrade the BUE in steps to make the program run "smoothly".
My question is...
When we upgrade to 12, then to 2010 R3, do we need to inventory and catalog the tapes, or will the catalog files read and transfer nice like?
We got the BUE 15 to find the old catalog files, but they are just folders with nothing in them, as 15 sees it.
If we step up in increments, will our old catalog files be readable without any additional (horribly painful) steps? We have hundreds of tapes, so manually cataloging each isn't something we really want to do... at all...

We perform VMware ESXi 5.5 VM full backups nightly. Is the BackupExec Exchange Server Agent required when only restoring or cloning an entire VM (without intent to ever use GRT to recover Exchange databases)? In other words does Symantecs VSS quiesce Exchange for the vmdk backup?
We have moved a physical Exchange server to a VM which was previously backed up by another product. Symantec no longer sells the Exchange Agent for our version of BackupExec. We're OK losing any Exchange activity since the last full backup. Just wanting to know if the database is stable at the time of the snapshot occurs via VSS.

Problem:
An USB harddisk is getting spontaneously a status "Offline" according to the messages from Backup Exec en Windows application Log.
Within 1 min (!) the USB disk is getting again spontaneously a status “OK” according to the Backup Exec but has in the same time state “Active” and no backups are possible anymore. Backup Exec 2012 hangs and also the administrator is getting no messages about failing of the backup.
Only killing of Backup Exec Engine service which is hanging and stopping/restarting afterwards all rest of the services of Backup Exec can resolve the problem of hanging of Backup Exec.
How to avoid this problem? It happens very often.

I have a situation where full backups sometimes fail due to a problem mounting shadow copy volume. The differential backups that follow are always successful. My question is, "are the differentials relative to the last successfull full backup (and therefore good) or are they relative to the recent failed full backup (and therefore not useful for restore)?"

i need to restore a full back up (we got hit with crypto) and its missing a bunch of the bkf files, it somehow got switched to delete after 4 weeks and my fault for not catching it. is there anyway to extract whatever bfk files i have somehow? i know there will be lost data, but some data is better than no data. windows sbs2008 backupexec 2010 r3.4

I'm just confused the difference between "used capacity vs data" . I used LTO4 ( 820m, 800 GB).
here's my scenarion. for example: My used capacity has 396.9GB out of 745.1 GB(total capacity of tape) and the Data also 497.36 GB.
Used Capacity:
745.1 GB - 396.9 GB = 348.2 GB ( remaining space out of 745.1 GB)
Data:
6/22/15 - SUN-SETA ( Full Server Backup) = 257 GB
7/6/15 - SUN-SETA ( Full Server Backup) = 239 GB
Total of Data = 497.36 GB
My question is, if my next backup consumed only 300 GB, it could be possible to reach the space out of 745.1 GB without prompted error? ( see the attached image for further reference) .
And also an you give me a clear explanation between the two?

I have installed BackupExec2013 in a Win7 computer, so I run the back up and got the following files:

Some time after I reinstalled Win7 in the same computer and tried to open the backup files I had but I can´t have my
files back but I get the following errors:
"Error ED80002A: No se pudo abrir el archivo de punto de recuperacion principal 'C:\Users\...\MINACO2-SCADA_C_Drive002.v2i'.
"Error ED800018: No se puede enocontras el punto de recuperación 'C:\Users\...\MINACO2-SCADA_C_drive002.v2i'
So I guess is looking for a .v2i file I don´t have.
How can I get my info back!???

i got confused,that do i create one media set (include 6 tapes to same) or 6 media sets (one tape each)
