Backup Exec 2012 Yearly Schedule does not supersede

$

I need a solution

Hello all!

Please consider this -

  • Weekly: full backup on every Sat,
  • Monthly: full backup 1st Sat of a month and
  • Yearly: full backup 2nd Sat of Jan in a year.
  • All same time and of course server.

Monthly does indeed supersede the weekly backup in the backup calendar.

But yearly does not supersede the weekly job. What does seem to work is putting yearly on 1st Sat instead of 2nd. Is that a bug (I suppose) or a feature?

Well, there's plenty of time to fix that... in my case. smiley

Thanks in advance, Manuel

Exclude list too big?

I need a solution

I was entering Global Exclusions - we lost our BE2010 srv to hdw failure and I had to install BE2012 so have to recreate EVERYTHING from scratch and learn an enitrly new program, which I hate BTW - and I can no longer get to the "Insert" button to continue adding more. I see no way to exclude certain files from the 7 servers I need to backup as a group. I used ot be ableo to simply pick and choose or exluce from each server individually....evidently no more. Posting here as "support" is the worst I deal with out of all my vendors and y'all usually know the answers...thanks!

Problem with backing up NAS

I need a solution

Hello!

I have a NAS and obviously I cannot push an agent for BE 2012 to back up. There is a method for NDMP however I can't do that option.

So I setup symbolic links that goes to the folders on the NAS through a server that has the agent installed. I added the job for that server and checked the box "Back up files and directories by following symbolic links". But the job stays stuck for countless hours and nothing is done. Is there a way to solve this or is there another method?

Backup Exec 2010 and Sharepoint module recovery

I need a solution

Good day,

We are using Backup Exec 2010 R2 (ver 13.0 rev 4164, 64 bit) (we have BE2012 but have not installed it yet for certain reasons).

We have the Exchange and SQL module and found out that there is a Sharepoint module as well. We currently use Sharepoint Services (not full blown Sharepoint) and would like to know if we purchased the Sharepoint module for Backup Exec if we will be able to do restores of files within Sharepoint portal attachments. For example: If we bought the Sharepoint module and did a full backup, would we be able to create a job restore and navigate through the Sharepoint backup file (since it is using an SQL database) and drill down at the file level and lets say, see within an accounting Sharepoint portal where all their attachments are and can restore just a single excel file all from within Backup Exec using the Sharepoint module?

I know this is very specific but the whole reason we would purchase the Sharepoint module is to do something like this.

Thanks for your help in advance!

I need a solution

Hello,

We run 1 server that backups all of our server.  We use backup exec 2012 on this server with all the latest patches.  It is running on a Windows 2008 server.

We utilize B2D, Deduplicated storage and a Dell tape library.

I need to know what specific data/directories do I needs to backed up on the backup exec server in order to recover the environment in a situation when we lose the backup server its self?

What would be the recovery procedure?

Is there an easy way of testing this recovery procedure?

I thank you for all your help

Multiple copies of same Media after 2010 - 2012 upgrade

I need a solution

Hi all,

So after upgrading from BE 2010 -2012 I have ended up with multiple copies of some of my tapes.

For example, I have a tape named TWS053L4.  If I look at 'All media' I can see it 3 entries for it.  They were in different Media Sets but I have put them all in the media set I want them to be.

One of the entries shows the location as my Robotic Library, so I believe this is the 'correct' one, but hjow can I safely get rid of the duplicate entries?

How to speed up snapshot indexing? BE 2010 CPS

I need a solution

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 as our backup application. We also use the Continuous Protection Server and take daily snapshots. Is there anyway to speed up the indexing of snapshots? We keep getting a warning that says "Indexing is falling behind" and when you view the snapshots a total of 5 are shown, only one of which has been indexed and it is from 6 days ago.

Also, now that I actually look at it, the other 4 snapshots all show as "Pending". It doesnt even look like its indexing any at all...

Thanks for any info you can give!

It appears for each item in Job History. We use BE 2010 R3, and it is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server. [be-server] mentioned above is the same server that BE is installed on. I've looked in the discussions and online but nothing. Not sure what else to try.

I need a solution

Hello,

We have:

  • BE 2012 running on Windows 2008 R2
  • BE 2012 RAWS + Enterprise Option
  • MS SQL 2008 R2 (standard) running on Windows Server 2008 R2
  • SANs used for master, temp, and db (size 200 GB)
  • FULL Backups each night - takes about 30 minutes - during 2hr time period when DB is quiet, but online.

During 22 hrs of normal business (online and global customers) we would like to take Transaction Log backups during the day. The other 2 hrs are for DB maintenance and FULL backup.

We have MS SQL STANDARD so limited in how many tasks it can do at the same time.

BE 2012 allows job schedule START time (e.g. 6:00 am) and how often job will run (e.g. every 30 minutes) but we do not see a job schedule END time.

We would like the Transaction Log backup to run during 22 hrs each day, but obviously NOT at the same time we run the FULL backup.

Questions:

How can we schedule hourly Log File backups and not run when the FULL backup is running? (or is this not really a problem)

Thank you in advance for your help.

How to find B2D files relating to backup set?

I need a solution

Hi,

I added a file server yesterday to my BE 2012 server and created a backup job. There is about 7GB of data in the file share and BE reported a succesful job and stated that it backed up all the data. However, I cannot for the life of me find the file. There is only ONE file in the storage repo that I pointed the job to but it is only 88MB! Where is the REAL B2D file?

When I click on "backup sets" and then double-click the set it created last night there is no where (that I can find) that shows which B2D files are associated with the set. Why?

Thanks!

Job Scheduling, multiple servers

I need a solution

*sigh*

Now that I have to make seperate job for each of my 7 servers but it's a "group" somehow....do I need to set a different start time for each box or is it smart enough to handle them all saying start at the same time? If different times, do I have to guess at how long each server takes to finish backup and verify?

We have been without backups for a week since this has taken 4 days to get to this point and I need to know ASAP...hence the post here vs. the 2 day wait for support to answer.

Thanks!

I use BE2012 to backup 20 VM servers to tapes now. The rate around 300 MB/Min to 800 MB/Min. If I backup to SAN storage, the backup rate will increase?

Do I connect BE server direct to SAN or to fiber switch? Thanks.

Tape Retention Question

I need a solution

I am using Backup Exec 2010r3.  Under my Media Set properties, I have Overwrite Protection Period set for 9 days and the Append Protection Period set for infinite - allow append.  Under the properties of my Daily backup, I have "Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available.  I have a four week tape rotation (a five day work week, so 20 tapes total) and my department needs to keep 90 days worth data on the tapes. The issue it seems I am having is that my tapes are filling up and they do not seem to be deleting old data from the tapes.  I have looked at some of the tapes and they still have data from June of last year on them.  I have five scratch tapes set aside, but again, I have to keep 90 days worth of data, so overwriting my scratch tapes is not possible.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  The Overwrite/Append options are a bit confusing, but from what I have read, I am not the only one.

SDR and DR files

I need a solution

Can you use .DR files created from previous backup sets when you do an SDR recovery?

For example, if you are restoring Wednesday's backup, can you use an SDR file that was created Tuesday?

I'm asking because it seems the .DR file is created after the backup is run, and therefore not backed up until the following job.

Can you have subfolders under the BEData folder? I would like to create subfolders under this folder and label the folders for each server that I'm backing up and directing the backup for that particualar server to it's respective folder name. Or are all the backup files stored in the BEData folder only? Such as: X:\BEData\ServerA and all of Server A's backup stored in this folder X:\BEData\ServerB and all of Server B's backup stored in this folder X:\BEData\ServerC and all of Server C's backup stored in this folder

My larger challenge will be getting from 11d to Continous Protection for Hyper-V.

Can anyone chime in on how they backup their SQL/Exchange (any DB) VM's.  Do you just backup VHD's; or do you actually perform application aware backups of the databases from Symantec Backup Exec?

Looking for strategies....

Server does not have recent updates ....

I need a solution

I´ve got one Backup Server (2012) to backup for about 5 Servers and 8 Clients.

Rolled out the Agents every time after applying Hotfixes, ...

My server always sends me an alert at 22:00: Liveupdate Information - The Agent for Windows on at least on server does not have the most recent updates ...

Why can´t they just add a list of servers where I can find out, which server is affected?

Any other location where I can find out which system is making troubles?

I tried to find out which system is making troubles but although I added all systems in the installation-list for the windows agent

BExec just says everything is fine. Only my Microsoft TMG can´t be queried for remote installation but Backup is running fine.

I installed the Agent there manually and it is the newest version.

Question: what does BExec check to say that there is a problem?
