I need a solution

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)recently upgraded to SP3, as required for continued support by vendor of support for OS.

Remote Agent broken as a result.

The error,

"GetIfADDRS(LINUX): failed err = 11"     occurs when the agent is initialised. The agent starts and immediately stops.

In these forums there is a method of editing the backup exec code using hex, that resolves the problem for at least some versions of LINUX and Backup Exec, but this would be a new venture into unknown territory for me.

 

Is any one aware of Symantec making available an official solution?

Can anyone confirm that Phil's fix works with SLES 11 SP3 and BUExec 2010 R3 Sp4?

BE2012 Staggered jobs dont start in sequence

I need a solution

Backing up 6 servers with 6 staggered jobs so they all start in sequence after eachother regardless of what time they actually get done.

Server 1 - 11:00 PM - B2T - backed up 1st
Server 2 - 11:10 PM - B2T - backed up 2nd
Server 3 - 11:20 PM - B2T - backup up 3rd
server 4 - 11:30 PM - B2T - backed up 5th
server 5 - 11:55 PM - B2D - backed up 4th
server 6 - 11:40 PM - B2T - Backed up 6th
Server 5 - scheduled after the first disk backup ends - D2T - backed up last - this is the correct spot
 
Why did server 5 B2D job hop over the 11:30 and 11:40 slated jobs? You can also see that after the B2D job finished, the D2T job did not fire, instead, server 4 B2T fired and then server 6 fired THEN the Duplicate job went. I would like Server 5s jobs to go last since that will be the last thing on the tape and if there is no room, the job can terminate. All the other servers info I would like to be on the tape since they are not going to disk first.

Symantec Backup Exec Small Bussiness

Is it possible to upgrade Backup Exec Small Bussiness to Backup Exec 2012. In oder to run some agents we will require to full version but at the moment we have the small bussiness installed. It would help greatly to provide steps as well.

Files in Dedup disk folder older than retention period

I need a solution

Hi All

Running BE 2012 SP3, I've noticed that we have the Dedup retention period set to 2 days but when I look at the dedup data folder on the server I can see some files that are much older than 2 days (though the majority do fall within this period).

Any idea why this might be? - I've found the reclaim space TN which I may have to follow but am not sure whether it would help me in this instance.

BackupExec 2012, long idle time during start and finish of job

I need a solution

When running a backup job, it seem that it takes very long time before the backup job starts, and also after the selected data har been processed.

It takes long time before job starts, and it seems as "nothing" happends, e.g when looking at service BEremote on backed up server it's no CPU load. Then when data transfer start it seems to run normal. But then again, when data amount is finished copy it taked even longer before job is set as finished and released from job queue.

 

Any suggestions  ?

Backup Exec 2012 - cannot backup corrupted .nsf file

I need a solution

Backup Exec 2012  -  (Lotus Domino 8.5) cannot backup corrupted .nsf file and based on the IBM for checking of this .nsf is not corrupted.

And additional information everytime we  try to backup Lotus include this corrupted .nsf file the server crashed.

We already coordinated to IBM and they said this corrupted .nsf file is working properly and it is not corrupted. 

Please help us IBM and Symantec are pointing each other who will solve this issue.

Cannot backup to tape with backup exec 2012

Hello,

 

So I've been trying for more than a week now to backup to tape with backup exec and I'm close to abandonning this program. I always get the same error message : "Physical volume library drive not found". I tried a few things on the net like reinstalling the tape drivers, updating the firmware, running as administrator. It seemed to me like people were saying that the tape driver doesn't work. So I tried installing Uranium backup in trial version and could create a backup that works with my tape right away. So what is the problem with backup exec?

No Media Vault

I need a solution

I have installed 60 day trial of Bbackup Exec 2012. I have configured disk based storage all OK but there is no option to create a media set or media vault. Admin guide is pretty poor, anyone had similar issue?

Anyone tried this yet?  Is it stable or no?

I'm gettting kind of desperate for 2012 support.  Thinking of trying it, but wondering if it's going to be more of a headache than its worth.

Hyper-V Backup

I need a solution

I will start with saying that I am pretty sure the set up is unsupported, but any tips/advice would be welcome as at the moment it is looking like we are going to have to bin BE and try another backup provider.

We are running a Server 2012 R2 Datacentre Host box with multiple 2012R2 guest VM machines under HyperV. 

BE2012VRay SP3 is installed on a 2008 guest (after we realised it would not install on the 2012R2 host)

Remote Agent is installed on all machines.

The problems begin when we try to run a backup of the host, selecting only HyperV from the selections (you can browse and see all vms in the selection list). After about 2 minutes of the job running it fails with:

0xe000fe30 - A communication failure has occurred. - Server Errors- An error occurred while connecting to the backup remote agent.

If we then check the host OS the backup exec remote agent is stopped.

If we remove hyper-v from the selection list and instead try to backup the vhd files we get the same error.

We do seem to be able to backup the virtual machines individually by treating them as full machines, but all attempts at any kind of restore has failed.

 

I do realise what we are trying is probably not supported, but I am hopeing there is a way to get a successfull backup/restore without having to completely bin BackupExec that we have used for years.

Upgrade best practice to 2012 SP3

Dear All,

We currently use Backupe Exec 2010 R3 SP3 on a Windows 2008 R2 media server. We are also using Vsphere 5.1.

I read for support of Vsphere 5.5 we need to upgrade to 2012 SP3. In a prior thread I read that we need first to upgrade BES before upgrading Vsphere to 5.5

Are there some guidelines availble  how to upgrade BES on the same media server from 2010 R3 SP to 2012 SP3?

Disk ejects like job is over but it is still running and can't cancel

I need a solution

Have a small companies server running backup exec. 2010 with a Dell RD1000 USB disk backup device.

It has recently started acting to me like the RD1000 has issues?

It will finish the backup and eject the tape but backup exec. says the job is stil running.

A couple times a week or so ago I could cancel the job and it would end it and say it completed succesfully?

The last couple days I say cancel and it never cancels.  I can not restart the backup exec. services without rebooting the server.

I have ran a database check and have recreated the job and it still does this.

simultaneous distinct vSphere VM backup

I need a solution

I am currently using multiple vcenter backups to target different VMs to get kicked off at once. I have 10 vsphere hosts and the annoying part about this is that i dont see a way to get 10 backups running on 10 unique servers.

am i missing something?

Exchange 2010 Transaction logs not deleting

I need a solution

BE2012 backing up two member DAG properly (circular logging off.) On job completion VSS on MB server generates log entry saying "VSS copy complete, transaction logs not deleted." VSS copy means logs not deleted. VSS full means logs should delete. I have other sample databases on each DAG server same thing happens. How do I get the trans logs to delete?  I see a way to force VSS copy in the freeze script but not force a full. VSS writer status shows no problems, DAG healthy. Properties of all databases show no Last Full Backup time and date either. Help!

BackupExec 2012 catalog folder space

Hi All

I'm running BE 2012 SP3 with the latest hotfixes and have a question surrounding the size of the catalogs folder.

We have a 100GB folder and only 1.3 GB free so I'm going to need to do something quick sharp before problems arise. We have had many extra servers added to the backup which explains the recent increase in the catalog size and the only options I see available to me are to use NTFS compression on the Catalogs folder, or to add additional disk storage.

I realise that additional disk storage would be the preferred option but I may struggle to find any so it may have to be the compression option, I do worry though about the performance hit once compressed - does anybody have any advice or experience with this?

We need to keep 6 weeks of data so retention and truncate catalog options are set accordingly.

I need a solution

Hi,

We are running SBS 2008 with the latest service pack, and Backup Exec 2012 v 14.

We also run Exchange 2007.

We run backups Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Every Tuesday we receive the below error -

"The job failed with the following error: A failure occurred querying the Writer status"

The server gets restarted every Sunday at 20:45.

All the remainder week backups are fine and do not suffer any issues.

We have already tried re-registering the DLL's as i have previously looked over similar articles related to this, and of course restarted the server as well. However, neither of these solutions have worked for us.

Does anyone else have another solution which they think would work?

User "XXXX" is not part of the Exchange Organization Administrators Group

I need a solution

I'm trying to configure Exchange 2007 backup using Backup Exec 2012.

When I was not able to browse the stores, I used the Backup Exec Support Tool and found the error:

User "XXXX" is not part of the Exchange Organization Administrators Group. I have indeed added the user to the group and have verified it both by running a powershell command in Exchange and seen it in the Exchange Management Console.

I've enclosed a picture of the error message as well as a printscreen from Exchange Management Console.

All the other tests are green.

Any ideas what might cause these? I've tried to log on and off several times.
