Active Directory - best practice

Greetings, 

we are using BackExec 2014, if I need to add our domain controller server which backup type I have to add it as a best practice for Active Directory on windosws server 2012 

Microsoft Windows computers and servers ? 

OR 

File Server or NDMP data Server ?
